On Thursday 24th May, 108 riders took part in the seventh annual SEGRO IAS Cycle Challenge. A new venue at Amersham & Chiltern Rugby Club presented the riders with a new challenge in the Chilterns. Heavy rain overnight on the Wednesday washed a lot of shale and debris onto the roads causing more punctures than in the preceeding six rides put together. It was a drizzly, murky start to the day but despite a miserable forecast, mother nature was kind, temperatures rose and a dry day resulted in an enjoyable cycle ride.

As always both the 75 and 40 mile routes were challenging with riders climbing 3,980 feet and 2,148ft respectively over the course of the day. There were some challenging hills especially toward the end of of the ride and we trust you were not feeling too sore post ride.

For the first time in the events history there was a 20 mile option to try and attract those riders who felt the longer distances were too challenging. We hope those that took part in the shorter route now feel they can move up a distance next year.

We then returned to the Rugby Club where we were welcomed back to a lovely BBQ.

Thank you to everyone for taking part and helping raise money for our two very deserving charities - LandAid and The Faraway Children’s Charity - The amounts have not yet been fully reconciled but each charity will receive around £3,500

All of the pictures from the day can be viewed via the link below and we look forward to seeing you at next years charity bike ride
